Thomas C. Bernaldo Sr. 92 of Naples Florida formerly of Upper Saddle River, NJ passed away peacefully at his daughters home in Saddle Brook surrounded by his loving family on May 20, 2020.

Tom was a loving father to Ronald Bernaldo, Thomas Bernaldo, Jr, Peter Bernaldo(deceased), Elaine Bernaldo, Joseph Bernaldo (deceased), Robert Bernaldo and Beth Ann Bernaldo-Lamboy. Beloved grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Tom will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Born in Fairview NJ to Santo and Adelaide Bernaldo on July 11, 1927, he was the youngest of 3 sons. Tom served his country when he enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. He was part of the SeaBees, a construction battalion during WW2. He always said he got the better quarters and food options by enlisting.

Tom was a proud union operating engineer for Local 825 before retiring in 1993 and moving to Naples Florida. There was not a machine out there that he couldn’t operate. Many a car drive around the state of NJ would provoke conversation about the projects and buildings he worked on including Garden State Plaza, which he helped enclose. He also helped build the town of Secaucus by filling in marshland while protecting wildlife preserve. He owned his own construction company, Walthom Construction, with his partner Walt.

Tom had an incredibly dry sense of humor, he loved to make everyone laugh. He had many talents including tinkering with and flipping cars, flipping houses during his retirement, golf, tennis, bowling, traveling, playing cards and flirting with the women. Along with his family, tennis and bowling were his greatest passions. He played tennis 3 days a week and bowled 2 nights a week. He bowled a perfect 300 game at the age of 79 on October 25, 2007, by far one of his happiest achievements.

Tom had a zest for life. He enjoyed spending his time with family and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed every minute here on earth. Everyone who knew him loved and adored him. He will be missed by all.
