Marie Christine Miccio was born in 1921 to parents who emigrated from Poland. After attending High School in Erie Pennsylvania, she graduated from Cumberland Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn N.Y. and pursued a career as a registered nurse. She met my father while caring for his mother, fell in love and thought “he’d be a great father” - and he was.

While he was serving his country in WWII, they kept in touch by exchanging love letters by mail, and after the war they married. Mom and dad were married for 55 years.

She raised 7 children on 1 salary and made sure we all had a Catholic education. She sewed clothes for her children, clipped coupons and stretched the available dollars as much as possible. She always maintained a color-coordinated, well cared for, and elegant appearance.

We moved to Rockland County in the early 1970’s so she could take care of dad’s elderly parents in our home, until they passed.

Mom had many interests and a few passions:
• She was a fervent garage sale shopper.
• She became a Master Gardener in 1982.
• She volunteered at Cornell’s Cooperative Extension.
• She returned to college when she was in her 50’s and shared many of the same classes with her two youngest children. To their chagrin, she made the Dean’s List, and they did not. We were all very proud of her accomplishment.
• She learned to drive to get back and forth to school.
• She enjoyed being a member of many of the local senior citizens clubs.
• She was a great travel companion and loved observing other cultures - she traveled around the world.
• She joined the Rockland Senior Volunteer Program and crocheted and knitted Baby clothes for premies and lap robes for hospitalized veterans.
• She received her real estate license.
• She painted lovely pictures, and played the piano beautifully.
• She cooked 5 course meals for the holidays for her huge family.
• She was a strong, enduring realist, and never complained about her aches and pains.
• She was a grandmother to 5 and great grandmother to 3 children with one on the way.
• She loved reading and doing crossword puzzles which kept her mind sharp to the end of her life.

As she grew older and her world got smaller her family was always by her side.
She lost her battle with time at age 98¾ on July 20, 2020 under the watchful loving eyes of her family at home.

She will be missed.
We thank her for all that she did.
We know she is at peace with our dad.
He waited a long time for her.
She was a loving and wonderful mom.

I loved my Aunt Marie very much. She was there for me when I went to Hofstra, She always had a positive take on anything I told her. She could see the bright side of everything. Now, I know she will be lighting up heaven even more.
I loved traveling with her through the highlands of Scotland sharing leek soup and rolls. She was always ready for adventure. She always sent me love. I felt that always. I am a better person because of her.
