Obituary for Floriane Dory

Floriane was born on December 15th, 1938 to her late mother Feicine Dory and late father Falante Hyacinthe in Grand Vincent, Haiti. She passed away peacefully on Thursday April 16th, 2020 in Nyack, New York. She worked hard as a single mother to support all her four children. She did not have much schooling through traditional education herself but putting her children through school was her highest priority. She was a devoted catholic and a woman of prayer who always had her rosary beads on her and would recite the prayers of Virgin Mary. Her love, kindness and selfless acts were felt by anybody who crossed her path. She did not have much, but whatever she had she would want to share with anybody in need.
Floriane migrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life on April 18th, 1989. She left behind her three sons and her niece Sejinale Mezier, whom she raised as her own. Floriane worked for 11 years at community health agency as a home health aide. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Spring Valley, New York. She was a member of “Groupe de la Louange”. She was involved in many more activities in the church, including visiting sick people in the hospital, praying for them, and bringing them holy communion. She was deeply loved by her sisters in the church. They mentioned that she was a “Poto Mitan” for the church and will be greatly missed. Floriane loved her family unconditionally and wanted to be a motherly figure for anybody she knew, young or old. She always had a word of encouragement to share with people, and today we celebrate her life, not her death.
She is survived by her four children: Franckel Juste, Maryse Sanon (born Juste), Fred Juste, & Hansy Juste. Also survived by her son in law, Jady Sanon, and her daughters in law, Gina Juste, & Noeda Juste. She was loved and cherished by her 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Marly Cantave, Johnathan Anthony Juste, Stanley Francois, Wesley Emmanuel Sanon, Gorvern Juste, Marie Brisa Juste, Rodcar Juste, Prince Treasure Juste, Hans Juste, Noah Juste, & Nadya Juste. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her siblings, Marie Salomon, Yvanah Mezier, Ena Mezier, Manze Mezier, Emilda Mezier, & Louis L-Hhomme Yhacinth, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and her friends.
Due to the global pandemic we could not have a proper Catholic funeral service. We will schedule a Catholic memorial mass and celebration of life service at a later date. This is an unfortunate situation, but we are praying for things to turn around soon. Be safe everyone.

My beloved grandma,
Being your first grandchild, I have so many memories with you that I cherish I do not know where to start with this. Just writing this brings tears to my eyes. Though I was very young when this happened I remember you telling me that when I was 2 or 3 years old when you use to babysit me I would run over to you if you fell asleep and open your eyelids and tell you to wake up constantly. I always believed that you would be here forever because you would constantly say to me that you can't leave yet until you seen me get married and knowing me I knew that wasn’t going to happen for a while. Those times as a young child staying at your apartment on the weekends, you would always let me get change out of your piggy bank so I can walk over to the store and buy candy knowing that Mom wasn’t too fond of that but I would eat it all before I would get picked up so she wouldn’t find out. You were such a loving person and so kind to everyone that whoever met you they always walked away saying “what a kind lady she is”. You loved the sport of basketball just as much as we did and had it on the television constantly no matter if it was NBA, WNBA, or Men’s/Women’s college basketball at your house. I am so glad that you were able to watch me play the sport we both love while I was growing up. I will miss your kindness, the beautiful smile, and hearing the words “Grandma loves you” from you. I will always love you forever and thank you for everything you have done for our family. Until we meet again, Rest In Peace.

What I will remember most about my Grandma is her kindness and her everlasting love for her family, friends and people as a whole all over the world. Whenever I would spend time with her she would always make sure that she had warm food for me to eat and a comfortable place for me to sit. She always put the well being and comfort of others over herself. Whenever I was with her I could always feel her love and warmth. I would not be where I am today without her prayers and guidance over my life. She always called me her big boy. She did not speak very much English but one thing she always made sure to tell me every time I saw or spoke to her was "Grandma loves you". I wish I could have one more time to tell her I love you too. I know that God will tell her for me through my prayers. I will always cherish the memories we had and the time we spent together. Thank you for your prayers and guidance. I know that I will see you again.

Love always,
Wesley, your big boy

Dear Grandma,

I will always remember you for the loving and caring person that you were. I love and appreciate everything you did for me. I cherish every moment that I spent with you. You were someone that just being around gave me peace and comfort. I wish that I could spend more time with you if just to feel that same comfort. Now I smile when I look back to every memory that I had with you. Memories of joy, memories of humor, memories of love. I hold on to these memories now as a precious heirloom. I thank you for everything that you did for me. I thank you for your prayers, for your love, and for raising a great son that became a great father. I will always love you Grandma.

One of my favorite memories of my grandma was playing dominoes with her. Growing up grandma did not know much english and I didn’t know much creole which led to me slightly confused on what she was saying at times. Despite this barrier she always showed her love for me by always wanting to take care of me. It always appeared that she had the utmost joy in trying to please my picky eating habits and entertaining me. When she first showed me the game I didn’t expect much from it and was hesitant to play. However, It turned out to be a really fun game and would be the game I played whenever I got the chance to spend time with her. Reflecting back on these times I am grateful to have had grandma in my life for so long and appreciate her unconditional love. I do wish I could have played dominoes one last time or hear her voice over the phone saying “is this Hans or Noah” when I called. I will cherish the memories I do have, and look forward to the next time we’ll play dominoes, love you grandma.
