Obituary

Obituary for Beatrice P Brown

Beatrice Perry Brown was born November 18,1933 to Dorothy Perry and Frank Byias, in Suffern NY and grew up in Hillburn NY. Her friends and family knew her as Bea, Beat, Aunt Bea, or mom-mom. She attended grade school at the Hillburn Brook school for the colored children, before it was integrated with the main school in 1943. She later went on to Suffern High School graduating with the class of 1952, and out of the 83 students graduating, Bea was one of the 6 black alumni students from the Hillburn Brook school.
When she got out of school she started work at the manufacturing company, Avon, in downtown Suffern and became one of, if not the first woman of color that was hired to work there.
Bea went on to meet, and then marry Jim Brown in 1956. As a couple they enjoyed dances, bowling, fishing, getting together with friends and family, along with other activities. She was a member of Brook Presbytarian Church as was her mother and grandmother. She was known to be supportive for her friends, family and community whenever she was needed. Beatrice Brown will be remembered by her graciousness, beautiful smile, and her compassionate-affectionate ways and will be missed by many.
Their first son, Jimmy jr was born in 1962, followed by their daughter Deena in 1966.
They raised their family in Hillburn where they resided until death.
Bea is predeceased by her husband Jim of 64 years.
She is survived by her son Jimmy, daughter Deena Williams( predeceased by Eric Williams)
Her grandchildren Cheridan Williams, Skylar Williams and Dallas Williams( his father Jodie Williams) a sister in law Carolyn Burgett (predeceased by Fletcher Burgett) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
