Obituary

Adriana (Huncikova) Scharr, 54 years young, of Ringwood NJ passed away on Sunday, July 5 peacefully under the care of Valley Hospital after a long illness.

Adriana was born in Slovakia to Rudolf and Edita Hunick (deceased), and is survived by her brothers Brano Huncik, Marek Huncik and their families in Slovakia. Adriana is also survived by her children Jacqueline and Patrick Scharr and by her former spouse Frederick Scharr.

Adriana came to America in 1990 and received a master’s degree in business, excelled in sales across several industries, and eventually started a Financial Advisory Practice for Edward Jones in Ringwood NJ. She also earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Adriana loved her clients, her family, and friends in the community. She was an active member and past President of the Ramapo Valley Rotary Club. Adriana redefined the words charming and delightful to all those she embraced. She remains in the hearts and souls of those who cherished her.

Special thanks to the Valley Hospital Health System and the astounding care and comfort they provided. A memorial service will be scheduled in the future when and where we can all be safe.

Three weeks ago, when we heard the news of Adriana’s passing time stopped, the world stopped, took a deep breath, and sighed. Since then my mind has been racing through my 30-year friendship with Adriana. Every moment that I remember is cherished as I am sure it is the same for all of you. I met Adriana 30 years ago when we both “came off the boat” from Slovakia (OK, actually it was by plane and totally legal). From the beginning, we had an unspoken understanding of each other and an instant bond. Being from similar upbringings and being in the US together, we moved toward fulfilling our dreams. We supported each other in our struggles, celebrated our victories, and we both cherished having a sister like bond with each other. From a young age, Adriana had great wisdom to share. Even back in our younger years, she was a fighter and a survivor, and this characteristic was evident to the very end of her beautiful life. She was dedicated to her career, working at Oracle, Bank of America, PNC Bank, and few others before she ended up in her dream job at Edward Jones as a financial analyst. She loved her job! She loved and cared for her clients deeply. She was president of the Rotary Club where she shared her intellect, experience, and wisdom, as well as volunteered her time for the business improvement district. She was a tremendous and supportive friend to me, and so many others. And I thank all of you (you know who you are) who have been by her side in the times of need (even-though she rarely asked for help). Her loyalty had no boundaries. Her infectious smile and stoic presence could never go unnoticed. She truly was a gift to anyone that knew her. But the most notable and admirable accolade that we would all agree upon, was her dedication and love she showed to her children. Her entire existence, and every decision she made was for the benefit and love for Patko and Jakuska. It was this unconditional love, patience, compassion, and fortitude which truly defined who she was. She appeared to be invincible. And I stand before you today knowing that it took a force greater than her to diminish her strength, courage, and love of life. She graciously and courageously fought a long hard battle for a year and half with the love and support of so many. She maintained dignity in the face of adversity. She was a light in the darkness. She fought each day for the promise of tomorrow. She did this selflessly for her children, for her family, and for her friends. She was a bright light in all of our lives and she loved her life. For this reason, her light will always be present in all of us and all of our lives. It is hard to not weep for the loss of our beautiful Adrianna, however, take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, she is whole again, and she is probably watching Bloomberg channel and crocheting scarves for everyone in heaven already. She is our angel watching over us from Heaven and wishing us to carry on with the same strength, dignity, and courage. So, my beautiful sister and dearest friend I will say my good-bye to you with an Irish blessing

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the Sun shines warm upon your face
the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the Palm of his hand

Such a beautiful message. I agree completely. In so many ways, she was like a sister to me as well. We met at Rutgers while we were studying towards our MBA. We became dear friends and then life happened and we each got busy in our lives. I am so sorry and sad I did not get to see her during her illness. - Patrick.

With deepest sympathy, I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing...I know my Master is there and that is enough.

Adriana was our friend and a great person. She was fun, intelligent, strong and tenacious. When she was growing her business, she knocked on our door to talk about it. We became her clients right away and we got closer and closer to her. She always wanted to help. We are shocked and saddened by her passing. She will find peace where she is now. RIP, dear friend. Our condolences to her entire family.

Aways a beautiful smile, always caring, always a warm welcome. That was my friend Adriana. We talked about our families, growing our businesses, inspiring others, and nutrition. We shared good times over lunch, hung out at Cupsaw Lake and had dinners at her lovely log cabin. I am going to miss her deeply. I always admired her strength, determination and courage. She adored her kids and treasured her time with them. May you rest in peace pretty lady. Have a great time in heaven and be with the angels. You are close to my heart.
